The Scaffolding Experiential Education Summer 2024 project at UBCV is funded by the Advancing Education Renewal Fund under the Office of the Provost and Vice-President Academic. The project is an extension of ongoing First-Year Experiential Education Research (FYEE) research (2022-2023), and incorporates findings (2024-) from literature reviews, focus-group sessions, and quantitative data obtained through the Behavioural Research Ethics Board (BREB) -approved “Experiential Education in Large Classes Survey.” The focus-group session “Discussing Experiences of EE Instructors: Facilitators, Barriers, & Next Steps” was conducted to gain discipline-specific insights and to explore the potential of scaffolding experiential education across the undergraduate curriculum, leading to the development of scaffolded “Engagement Profiles” for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year UBCV courses.

The Scaffolding Experiential Education Symposium took place on August 26, 2024, at the University of British Columbia-Liu Institute for Global Issues. The symposium provided a platform for sharing approaches, addressing challenges, and exploring possibilities related to integrating experiential education across the undergraduate degree. This gathering brought together a diverse and engaged group comprising over 60 faculty members, graduate students, and staff from various disciplines.
